Substructure Help

Analysis/Design Parameters Screen

The Analysis/Design Parameters screen will resemble figure shown below. You can modify or review the permissible stresses, column slenderness types, cracked section analysis and impact factor.

For slender columns, you can select the P-delta Method check box under Column Slenderness Consideration. You can assign up to 5 number of iterations or have Substructure perform iterations by selecting the Auto option from the Number of Iterations list. If you selected the Auto option, Substructure will stop iteration once the results are convergent or the number of iterations reaches 5. If you do not select the P-delta method, you can use the moment magnification method (see Column screen) to design the slender column.

  • Column section - user has option to select gross section or cracked section properties if concrete tensile stresses are exceeding the concrete permissible tensile stress.
  • Gross section - user also has option to transform rebar and recompute section properties or use non transformed section properties.

User can also define permissible stresses for cap, column and footing as well as allowable tensile reinforcement. Program uses predefined cover distances during Autodesign routine.

Substructure follows two different algorithms to generate load combinations. If the Use Cross Combinations option is selected, the program will generate comprehensive load combinations. If the Dependent Load Case combination option is selected, the program will use the concept of load dependency to generate the combinations. In this case, the number of combinations will be less than if you selected the Use Cross Combinations check box. Program now allows you to view or modify the dependency. To do this, you may click the Dependency Table button.
